What happens to the children who fall through the cracks in the spaces between the laws? 

Keri Metzger, an up and coming family law practitioner in semi-rural Wisconsin, is forced to grapple with this question. Keri has herself known the challenges of single motherhood, having left a marriage that had taken a violent turn. But when she agrees to take on a new guardian ad litem appointment she soon finds that there is more to the underlying story than a social service system, overwhelmed and seeking the most expedient solution, has quickly concluded. Keri’s investigation, led by her seasoned instincts, faces off against the prevailing wisdom, suggesting the children are in fact at serious risk of harm with their mother. But can she save all three of the children? And what are the unforeseen consequences if she does not?

The Throw Away explores what happens when a pain-laced, destructive past collides with an unsuspecting present with lethal force. 

This book takes the reader through an emotional landscape many have not explored from the inside out.
